BONE AUGMENTATION PROCEDUREFor this procedure there is a donor site and receipient site for the bone material either authentic or synthetic. If it is the patients bone that is being used for the grafting it is either removed from the chin or ramus of the jaw or in other cases the hip bone. To remove the bone from the jaw an incision is made in the gingiva on the lower teeth below the teeth and some bone is grafted. The grafted area is filled with a filling material and the gingiva is replaced so that it may heal. The receipient site is then drilled a few times to induce bleeding. Blood has the materials in it that will help the graft heal in its new place. Then the new bone is placed and held in place with titanium screws. It is allowed to sit and heal. The receipient area is covered with a membrane so that the gingiva may properly heal. It take approximateley 6 to 12 months for the area to heal before an implant can be placed. After it has healed the titanium screw and block can be removed and the implant procedure may begin. |
