DENTAL IMPLANT - QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Why is it good to have an implant?
We can replace the missing tooth without having to scale the adjacent ones (in order to place crowns and a bridge on them). You can also avoid having to use a dental prosthesis.
Ideal results can be achieved both functionally and aesthetically.
There is no other dental treatment that makes your appearance more natural or can provide more durable crowns.
How does the implant function?
The implant is an artificial root, which is placed in the jaw. The process requires an operation. Regarding shape and function, an implant is the replacement that is the most natural and the most alike your original tooth. The sheath is firmly fitted in the bone so that it safely holds the crown, bridge or prosthesis. An implant is the best solution in every case when there is a void or more, as well as in the case of having to supply a whole set of teeth.
What is the procedure when placing in an implant?
The first step is a general check-up with view of implantation. X-ray images are taken in order to be able to determine the number and place of the necessary and sufficient implants.
Next decisions should be made regarding the type of replacement, the number of necessary appointments, the temporary prosthesis required during the healing period and the expected costs.
The most modern analgesic technics are used while setting the implant. After creating an appropriate bed, a sheath is placed in. This operation does not involve more inconvenience or pain than a simple tooth extraction. You may experience slight discomfort for a couple of days following the treatment, as the area will probably be a little sensitive.
After a period of 3 to 8 months of healing a stud is inserted in the implanted hollow base. This will hold the crown. You are advised to return for an annual check-up, so that your dentist can examine the hygienic condition of the area around the implant.
